Von Rockhampton nach Hervey Bay - From Rockhampton to Hervey Bay

Unser heutiges Ziel hiesz Hervey Bay und liegt ca. 400km von Rockhampton entfernt und ca. 300km vor Brisbane.
Hervey Bay ist der Ausgangspunkt fuer alle Touren nach Fraser Island und das will ich mir natuerlich nicht entgehen lassen :)
Recht frueh brachen wir also in Rockhampton auf und machten uns auf den Weg in Richtung Sueden. Kaum waren wir am Bruce Highway stellten wir auch schon fest, dass eine Tankstelle dringend noetig waere. Wir fuehlen uns einfach wohler wenn der Fuellstand mit mehr als 2 Striche am VW Tacho angezeigt wird.

Wir fuehlen uns einfach wohler wenn der Fuellstand mit mehr als 2 Striche am VW Tacho angezeigt wird.
Diesel scheint jedenfalls nicht so weit verbreitet zu sein und so kamen wir auf der Suche nach Diesel an der LKW Zapfsaeule vorbei :|
Am fruehen Nachmittag erreichten wir dann den Caravan Park in Hervey Bay und buchten gleicheine 1-tages Tour nach Fraser Island - fuer uebermorgen (4.10). Morgen werden wir uns hier noch etwas umsehen und am lokalen Badestrand flanieren.
Also vorerst war es das dann mit Updates, zumindest bis nach dem Ausflug am Sonntag.
Unserer weiterer Plan sieht dann vor, dass wir am Montag weiter fahren und auf dem Weg nach Brisbane am Australia Zoo vorbeischauen.

Our goal for today was to reach Hervey Bay as this is the doorway to Fraser Island and we couldn't miss that, do we?! ;)

Quite early we started from Rocky and headed for the south, as we entered Bruce Hwy we recognised that some fuel would be nice. We just feel much more comfortable when the tank is more than two tenth full. But Diesel seems not so popular here and while searching for the right point we stopped at the petrol pump for the trucks. :|

Tomorrow we will just visit the beach and hang around to relax a bit, so this was now the last update for the meanwhile until we have news from Fraser.

Jetzt ist es doch schon wieder ein Zeiterl her, wo wir unseren letzten Eintrag verfasst haben. Dafuer moechte ich mich entschuldigen, aber in Cape Hillsborough hatten wir leider keinerlei Internet.
Als wir von Airlie Beach die Schnauze voll hatten entschlossen wir uns einen Tag frueher zu fahren und dafuer im Nationalpark Cape Hillsborough eine Nacht zu verbringen.
Warum wir von Airlie genug hatten? Eigentlich sind wir dort gewesen um auf die Whitsunday Islands zu kommen und uns dort Whitehaven Beach anzusehen. Zu unserem Missfallen gibt es aber nur groeszere Bootstouren die mindestens einen Tag dauern und eine lange Zeit auf See vorsehen - natuerlich nicht ganz guenstig.

Da wir zum einen schon Schnorcheln waren und Simon sich nicht ganz so wohl auf dem Ozean fuehlt entschieden wir uns das ganze nicht zu machen und eine einfache Ueberfahrt gibt es nicht zu buchen :(
In unseren Reisefuehrern fanden wir dann eine lohnenswerte Alternative und die hiesz eben Cape Hillsborough. Dort gibt es im Nationalpark einen Caravan Park von dem man nette Bushwalks machen kann und etwas vom Wildlife mitbekommt.

Genauergesagt Schildkroeten, Echsen und Kaengurus koennen dort beobachtet werden.
Als wir dann dort waren dauerte es auch nicht lange bis wir das erste "Roo" durch den Park huepfen sahen und die Truthaehne schienen uns von Airlie gefolgt zu sein.

Spaeter am Nachmittag machten wir uns dann auf den Weg zum Turtle Lookout auf einem 2,5km kurzen Bushwalk. Die Temperaturen machten den Aufstieg fuer uns zwar etwas anstrengend aber vom Aussichtspunkt konnten wir tatsaechlich Schildkroeten sehen. Steil nach unten schauend sahen wir immer wieder wie die Eine oder Andere auftauchte und wieder abtauchte. "Hey dude", das war schon cool trotzdem dass wir soweit entfernt waren.
Heute fuhren wir dann weitere ~370km durch unbewohntes Land um die Nacht in Rockhampton zu verbringen.
Und hier sind wir nun, den Botanischen Garten mit Zoo haben wir uns schon angesehen, so koennen wir morgen also mit ruhigem gewissen weiter nach Harvey Bay.

It's been some time now since our last post and I want to appologise. After we were fed up with Airlie Beach we headed for Cape Hillsborough and there was no internet connectivity.

The initial plan was to get to Whitsunday Islands and visit Whitehaven Beach but there are only tours available which last at least 1 day and they are quite a time on sea and of course not really cheap.
As we already did some snorkeling and Simon is also not keen to be on the ocean for such a long time we threw the plan over board ;)
The LonelyPlanet and our other Travelguide suggested to visit Cape Hillsborough National Park to see some wildlife and relax at the beach. Regarding the books the chances are good to see dragons, kangaroos and turtles.
Once we were there it didn't took long until the first "Roo" jumped through the Park, also the turkeys seemed to following us from Airlie.

Later in the afternoon we did a bushwalk toward the "Turtle Lookout" on a 2,5km bushwalk. The temperatures made the ascent a bit hard but as we reached our goal we were rewarded with seeing turtles steep below in the ocean. They were coming up the water to take a breath of air every now and then. "Hey dude", this was amazing even though we were so far away.

After seeing the botanic garden and the zoo we're now fine to leave tomorrow for Harvey Bay.
